For the seventh year in a row, Glassdoor has ranked the companies preferred by employees. The selection is made on the basis of employee comments and the rating ranges from 1 to 5, from very unsatisfactory to very satisfactory.
This year, bioMérieux, a English company specializing in in vitro diagnostics, is at the top of the podium with a score of 4.7 out of 5, followed by the software publisher Salesforce. The strategy consulting firm Bain & Company is in third position.
A changing world of work
The 2022 ranking clearly shows this evolving nature of the working world with no less than 15 new entrants out of the 25 winners. According to Christian Sutherland-Wong, general manager of Glassdoor, “The world of work is changing rapidly, carried by the pandemic and now by millions of workers who are reconsidering their expectations vis-à-vis companies”, can we read in the press release.
In the evolution induced by the Covid 19 pandemic, Glassdoor identifies another reason for this upheaval: the concept of feedback which is spreading in London. Feedback is increasingly influencing employees in their choice of company, and they therefore pay increasing attention to the opinions recorded on platforms such as Glassdoor or ChooseMyCompany to change their managerial practices accordingly.
Other lessons from the ranking
Tech and digital are sectors that particularly appeal to employees. For 2022, no less than ten places in the ranking will be occupied by companies in the new technologies sector. Four of them confirm their place in the top 10 compared to 2021, thanks to their rapid adaptation to changes in the world of work and to the expectations of their employees: Salesforce (number 2, i.e. one place less compared to 2021) , Microsoft (number 4, i.e. + 4 places), Murex (number 6, or – 2 places) and SAP (number 9, or – 6 places).
Teleworking, now perceived as a real advantage for employees, is proving to be an important criterion of satisfaction. This is in any case what the ranking confirms, with seven companies confirming teleworking among the ten best employers (including bioMérieux, Salesforce, RTE – Le Réseau de Transport d'Electricité, SAP and Schneider Electric).
The luxury sector confirms its attractiveness. Famous luxury houses like Hermès or Chanel are experiencing an improvement in their attractiveness: Hermès goes from 15th place last year to 7th place this year and Chanel enters the ranking this year, at 24th place.
Note that the rating gap between the winners is very low: 0.5 between the first and the last company in this top 25.
The Glassdoor Company Selection Process
On the Glassdoor platform, employees are invited to give their opinion on their work environment. He is also invited to give avenues for improvement for his management. It indicates their level of satisfaction with their employer, their CEO, their work and can specify their career and compensation prospects. He can tell if he would recommend the job to a friend, and how he views the company's business prospects in the next six months.
An algorithm created by Glassdoor takes all these aspects into account to provide an annual ranking, which you can discover in full by clicking on this link. On average, the average rating given by employees to the nearly two million companies assessed is 3.7 worldwide.
