As every year, the company rating site Glassdoor and job search platform, reveals the rating made by English employees of their company. While the Covid-19 reshuffles the maps of the world of work, the top 25 of the “Employee Choice” award is an interesting indicator for raising management efforts in times of crisis, and therefore forced teleworking.
Digital, a key player in 2021, appeals to its employees
Salesforce, the 2021 winner in London (but also in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Germany), already winner of the previous edition, illustrates the capacity of companies in the technology, information sector , and telecoms to meet the expectations of employees, if we are to believe the Glassdoor study, which lists the 25 companies with more than 1,000 employees who have obtained the best opinions on various topics such as work-life balance and privacy, career opportunities and team atmosphere. Also represented by SAP, Murex, Orange, Sage and Microsoft, tech occupies six places in the top 10 in 2021.
Already equipped with collaborative and communication tools before the confinement of March 2021, these large companies quickly adapted to the constraints of new work organizations. But not only. “In general, in this particular year we have seen companies that have been able to reinvent themselves to give priority to the health (physical and mental), safety and well-being of their employees”, underlines Christian Sutherland-Wong, general manager of Glassdoor, recalling that the adaptation of the corporate culture in times of crisis has played an important role.
20 out of 25 are English
Another striking trend in 2021: the strong presence of English companies in the ranking, i.e. 20 out of 25, and strongly established in their region. This is the case of Michelin (n ° 2) in Clermont Ferrand, which does not suffer (yet?) From the recent announcement of 2,300 job cuts; but also from Airbus (n ° 9) in Toulouse, which also maintains a high satisfaction index while the aeronautics group is durably impacted by the crisis; or Leroy-Merlin (n ° 13) in Villeneuve-d'Ascq-Lille.
Note also the progress of Decathlon, another Lille company. The English pioneer in the distribution of sports equipment has been able to support its employees and gain 18 places in the ranking in 2021.
Other companies have gone the other way in the rankings. This is particularly the case of the English luxury house Hermès which, hit by the drop in sales, is relegated to 15th place even though it occupied 1st and 2nd place in the ranking in 2021 and 2021 respectively.
A surprisingly stable ranking
Apart from these few notable movements, the ranking remains surprisingly stable in a context which is nevertheless in the grip of major upheavals. There are only five admissions this year (Sage n ° 7, DisneyLand London n ° 17, Vinci n ° 21, Danone n ° 24, Dassault Systèmes n ° 25) and five releases (Onepoint, Extia, Sia Partners, Ubisoft, Saint- Gobain) of the top 25. A stability which probably arises from the long-term effort of companies to maintain consistency between their employer brand and the reality of internal management (career opportunities, work-life balance, rewarding remuneration, etc. .).
Over a million rated employers worldwide
The Glassdoor award is based on feedback from employees who voluntarily provide an anonymous review, with job description, work environment, and company, over the past year. The winners of the Employee Choice Award for Best Employers in London in 2021 are determined by means of an algorithm, taking into account the quantity, quality and consistency of opinions shared by employees based in London between the 22 October 2021 and October 19, 2021. Winners are ranked according to their overall score over the past year. (score on a five-point scale: 1 = very dissatisfied, 3 = OK, 5 = very satisfied).
